When Cannon School, located in Concord, NC, built a new middle school addition, they made a somewhat unconventional decision and decided to use the valuable real estate for classroom space rather than having hallways lined with lockers.
Special Considerations for a Changing School Environment
“Since many of our textbooks are online and our students have a 1:1 iPad program, we realized our students were using their old lockers for lunch boxes, sports bags, water bottles, and not much else,” Carla Moyer, Head of Middle School at Cannon School, says.
Instead, the school decided on a “cubby style” set-up. Students can come into a designated room full of lockers, drop off their items, and quickly get to class. They can easily access the room throughout the school day to retrieve items and leave others.
About “The Boss”
If you happen to be a fan of TLC’s hit show Cake Boss, then you’re probably familiar with master baker Buddy Valastro. The well-known celebrity chef, entrepreneur and reality star happens to be on our list of inspirational clients. The former ‘mom and pop’ bakery’s national success didn’t happen overnight, but comes from generations of gifted bakers. The family-owned bakery known as “Carlo’s Bake Shop” has deep roots that go back to 1910, when it was originally opened by Carlos Guastaffero. The shop was eventually acquired by Buddy’s father, Bartolo Sr., and after his death in 1964, his children Grace, Maddalena, Mary, Lisa and Bartolo Jr. “Buddy” continued carrying out the decadent legacy.
Office Lockers, An Unlikely Source for a Creative Touch
When you think of a financial building, you might imagine a boring beige or gray building full of drab cubicles–but BlackRidge Financial’s new building in Fargo, ND is anything but boring. Every wall and piece of furniture there has a story or hidden meaning. In one room, you’ll find a table made from a replica of the Fenway Park scoreboard with replicas of famous baseball bats for legs. In other parts of the building, you’ll find steampunk light fixtures, a 2-ton steel chandelier, and flooring from the old basketball court at North Dakota State University. To complete the sports theme, they added some office lockers instead of a coat rack. The place is full of hidden (and not-so-hidden) references to sports, the band Rush, and the Star Wars movies.
“I’m really excited to host a show that starts today, instead of tomorrow”. -Jimmy Fallon
Sometimes you get called for a school in need of some new lockers, and other times you get a call for school lockers for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. And they need them—like yesterday. Selling lockers to the public has its perks, but when we get to work on exciting jobs like this, with one of the coolest, most down-to-earth comedians in the business, it truly pays off. If you don’t know Jimmy Fallon, you are missing out on one of the most talented, unique comedians around who has his own highly popular late-night show on NBC (formerly The Jay Leno Show) as well as numerous other comedic achievements under his belt.
Stolen Spirits inspired us right away with their contagiously cool branding and fresh approach to the art of rum-making. If you’ve never heard of them, you should first know that they are currently the only company in the world that sells “smoked rum.” The inventive New Zealand-born label came to life when two business partners with a common passion for high-quality rum, and a desire to escape the corporate world, shook up the liquor industry with their wild success. The humble beginnings of this grassroots company first started operations in an Auckland apartment in 2010. Today, their award-winning rum has developed an international following of devoted drinkers and bartenders across New Zealand, Australia and the U.S. The company has also raked in various international awards and recently sold a controlling interest to a U.S.-based company for $21 million NZ.
“Hunger is the world’s biggest solvable problem.” – World Food Programme
At SchoolLockers.com, we love to hear about our lockers being used for important reasons–but sometimes the true value of storage escapes us because we don’t always hear about the meaningful service they provide. One of our most valued projects involved finding lockers for a local, non-profit Christian organization called Feed My Starving Children (FMSC). This amazing organization partners with another organization called Kids Feeding Kids, and their joint efforts have provided as many as 161,737,104 meals to 50 countries worldwide…can you say kudos?! Not only does FMSC provide numerous meals to impoverished communities, they’ve also helped implement a variety of sustainability programs to provide resources for clean water, agriculture, health care, education, spiritual development and more.
New Lab’s open office design with cubicles and metal lockers
Reinventing an Industry
Building 128 around WWII, before it became New Lab
New Lab has taken state of the art to a whole new level by renovating an old World War II machine shop called Building 128 into a space that would be home to scientists, inventors, and business owners. The design would allow for every need to be met for up to 350 individuals and 50 companies. Whether an open collaborative space was needed or a private area to focus on work, New Lab thought of everything. Featuring studios, lounges, open cubicle work spaces, meeting rooms, and 4,500 square feet of event space, this is truly a unique collaboration space.
