Lockers Can Change Lives - Find Out How You Can Too

It's a locker.  A pretty basic thing--four metal walls and a locking door.  If you look around, you can see lockers are used in just about every aspect of your daily routine.  When you go to the gym, stopping for a quick game at a rec center, using an employee bathroom/changing room and especially if you're a student and you spend any amount of time on campus; they are there....everywhere.

But how can a locker change a life?  I bet you never thought about that one, right?  Lockers in fact can have a dramatic impact on someone's life.

Lives like those of the homeless who have nowhere to keep their possessions.  Nowhere to securely lock up some of the very few valuables they have on this earth.

Now having something like lockers to lock up these few things many not sound like much to you and I--of course we just leave things at home, in a car, in a trunk or perhaps even the locker at our gym, school or university.  But for the homeless, there are no such places and that is why more and more organizations and donors are realizing that lockers can in fact make a huge impact on this demographic of our society.

Imagine trying to get a job, having to go to an interview and not being able to leave your possessions somewhere safe--like  in lockers.  Imagine how that interview would go?  Probably not well, if you can imagine it.  Well that is the reality of what some of these folks have to deal with each and every day when trying to pick themselves up and out of being homeless.

This faith-based organization located in Vancouver decided to put their money where they knew it would best serve the homeless they assisted.  It was in providing 200 lockers for the homeless so they could lock up valuables during times when they were at work or looking for work.

Set up in 2009 as part of the Olympic-related programs, and continued due to donations and other funding, this program has helped thousands of people.  Imagine how your community could be better served by a few rows of donated new (or even used) lockers where the homeless, those suffering from domestic abuse and the otherwise downtrodden could go and have a safe place to secure their stuff--like lockers.

Each and every community could benefit from such a program and such donations.  This is why the issue is so very simple and the solution even more simple to wrap your mind and efforts around.

This is how YOU can get involved in your community.  This is how lockers can help change lives.  Think about what kind of an impact you'd have, and what such a simple metal locker could have upon those who desperately need that assistance and peace of mind.
