About "The Boss"
If you happen to be a fan of TLC’s hit show Cake Boss, then you’re probably familiar with master baker Buddy Valastro. The well-known celebrity chef, entrepreneur and reality star happens to be on our list of inspirational clients. The former ‘mom and pop’ bakery's national success didn’t happen overnight, but comes from generations of gifted bakers. The family-owned bakery known as “Carlo’s Bake Shop” has deep roots that go back to 1910, when it was originally opened by Carlos Guastaffero. The shop was eventually acquired by Buddy’s father, Bartolo Sr., and after his death in 1964, his children Grace, Maddalena, Mary, Lisa and Bartolo Jr. “Buddy” continued carrying out the decadent legacy.
The Valastro family’s tireless commitment to superior quality in their indulgent pastries, desserts and cakes has earned the shop the national spotlight, with features in well-known publications including Modern Bride and The Knot. Buddy’s well-deserved title as a celebrity chef boasts an impressive resume that has gained him notoriety across various media platforms. The chef’s memorable cake design was voted by TODAY Show viewers as the ‘best cake in America’, and he has also appeared on several TV shows including Kitchen Boss, The Next Great Baker and Bakers vs. Fakers on The Food Network. The talented baker is known for his highly detailed sugar artistry used to create stunning wedding and specialty cakes. Buddy’s popularity has resulted in a wildly growing fan base that has allowed Carlo’s Bakery to expand, with 13 locations in major U.S. cities.
The Storage Problem: How Can Employees Safely Store their Belongings and Tools?
With the growth of their new bakeries opening around the country, Carlo's need for secure employee storage soon became a top priority. We were contacted by Aalap from Carlo's Bakery, who expressed the need for high visibility of locker contents as well as individual security for personal belongings. With such a large investment being put into their valuable baking supplies and tools--and multiple employees coming and going all the time--the company needed reliable storage to protect their assets and employee’s belongings.
The Storage Solution: Mail Slot Lockers
We knew right away which lockers would perfectly fit the bakery’s needs, so we suggested our employee lockers with mail slot. This space-saving locker configuration included a set of three locker columns, each column offering four box lockers for a total of 12 compartments. The locker doors provide just enough visual inspection with the added benefit of air circulation to keep storage fresh. Each locker includes a mail slot located at the top of the door so that mail can be exchanged within the company. Aalap agreed that this mail slot locker style would be the most secure storage option for their bakeries and consequently ordered locker sets for each of their locations.
Working with Carlo’s not only gave us a serious craving for their award-winning sweets, but we couldn’t be more proud to instill security in each of their bakeries with our box lockers with mail slots, helping them to continue building their family’s amazing legacy.
