Use Lockers to Organize Your Home

We participated in a Twitter chat a few weeks ago (#diytrends, hosted by Zircon Corporation every other Thursday at 11:00 a.m. PST—check it out!) that got us in a storage and organization mindset. Our favorite home organization tool? Lockers, of course! You can use lockers to organize virtually any room in your home. BONUS: they’re super versatile and add a fun, unique feel to any space!  Throw a locker into a room to infuse little pops of color while adding functional storage at the same time.

Let’s go room-by-room and see how you can use lockers to organize your house and get everything in tip-top shape.

Bathroom

You can store extra toilet paper, toothpaste and other toiletries inside a metal locker on the upper storage shelf. Hang towels or robes on the interior wall hooks and stash extra towels on either the upper shelf or locker bottom.

Bedroom

There are literally SO MANY ways you can use lockers in a bedroom to make things more organized. Our Mini Lockers make great nightstands—put a lamp, alarm clock or even just something pretty on top and use the lockable storage area for stashing books, magazines and tablets.

Kids Lockers make fun, unique storage for games and toys in children’s bedrooms. Other ideas we’ve seen? Using lockers for shoe storage, as a dresser and even as a changing table in a nursery!

Family/Living Room

In your family or living room, use lockers as a makeshift bookcase with storage areas underneath! We love this idea from Jaime Scott's blog, "Caught in Grace." All you have to do is buy a set of three-wide, five tier box lockers, take the doors off of the upper rows and use that area to showcase your favorite books, picture frames and knickknacks. Use the bottom half of the locker to store games, books, DVDs and more!

Garage

Stadium lockers (or any other style of locker, really) are the perfect way to store sports gear and equipment, lawn care items, tools, automotive supplies…whatever you want.

Kitchen

Short on space in your kitchen? Use lockers to organize linens, towels, aprons, cookbooks and other items that are sometimes hard to find a spot for. We also really love this idea from Rain on a Tin Roof of mounting basket lockers on the wall and using them for cookbook storage!

And if you REALLY want to get creative? Use a bank of lockers to make a unique, one-of-a-kind kitchen island or as extra pantry space.

Mud Room

Lockers make the perfect addition to mud rooms because they're strong, durable and have lots of storage space for all your outdoor gear. We have a wide selection of Mud Room Lockers, but any old locker will do. ;) Hang coats, jackets, scarves and backpacks on the interior wall hooks. Use the locker bottom for shoes and boots and the upper storage shelf for hats, books, etc.

Office

If you need more storage space in your home office, try using one of our Kids Storage Lockers with Cubbies (pictured above in the laundry room). Stash office supplies, extra paper and notebooks on the exposed shelves. Use the lockable storage areas for sensitive documents.

Play Room

Lockers are the PERFECT storage solution for a play room. Our Kids Lockers come in a variety of styles and colors. And because they’re strong and durable, they’ll certainly stand up to whatever’s thrown at them (literally!). Stash toys, games, books, puzzles, art supplies and more inside.
