Featured Project: A Locker Solution to Help the Greater Good

"Hunger is the world's biggest solvable problem." – World Food Programme

Feed My Starving Children

At SchoolLockers.com, we love to hear about our lockers being used for important reasons--but sometimes the true value of storage escapes us because we don’t always hear about the meaningful service they provide. One of our most valued projects involved finding lockers for a local, non-profit Christian organization called Feed My Starving Children (FMSC). This amazing organization partners with another organization called Kids Feeding Kids, and their joint efforts have provided as many as 161,737,104 meals to 50 countries worldwide…can you say kudos?! Not only does FMSC provide numerous meals to impoverished communities, they’ve also helped implement a variety of sustainability programs to provide resources for clean water, agriculture, health care, education, spiritual development and more.

The mission behind FMSC is ultimately driven by a higher purpose, as the organization is strongly rooted in their Christian beliefs with a dedication to God. This spiritual element is a large part of what makes FMSC stand out among many other organizations. Daily prayer is used in all aspects of their operations, including fundraising and packaging, and the volunteers are requested to pray after the packaging of each meal. The commendable work FMSC has done and their extensive progress over the past 16 years speaks volumes to their spiritually-motivated service to feed the hungry.

The Storage Problem

FMSC relies on a strong volunteer base for its success, which is where our lockers come in to play. Joel Howell, who is the supply chain director at FMSC, contacted us in search of lockers that would secure the volunteers' personal belongings as they packed food during two-hour intervals. The important work these volunteers do needed to be the main priority, so eliminating any trivial worries was the main objective. Finding lockers that would be reliable, secure and convenient was crucial in addressing the organization’s needs.

The Storage Solution

After discussing a few different locker styles with Joel, we decided that our box lockers with six tiers would offer the best solution for their anticipated user volume. This configuration of three locker columns would provide 18 user compartments per set, allowing them to serve as many volunteers as possible within the least amount of floor space. The addition of electronic locks also made the most sense for their volunteers since each user would only need a locker temporarily. The convenience of our electronic locks allowed users to set their own temporary locker codes for access during their assigned time frame.

“I have appreciated working with John.  He has always been very kind and helpful, providing great customer service,” Joel said about his experience working with us for this project.

Kids Helped by Feed My Starving Children

The new locker additions at the FMSC facility have been a big success! We were able to provide peace of mind for their volunteers and staff, which allowed them to simplify their storage needs and focus on their amazing work.

Solving the storage problems of a client may seem small to some, but in this case we were clearly able to see just how important our lockers can be.
