Why on earth would I want a kid locker?
I remember asking myself the very same thing before I started working here. Why on earth would someone actually buy a locker for a kid, when lockers remind kids of school?! I thought back--way, way, WAY back--to my youth and whenever I saw lockers all I could think of was Mrs. Von Zolos and her awful math tests I had to take..
But I guess things have certainly changed since those thrilling days of yesteryear.
This week we had the opportunity to go into a home where kid lockers had been purchased and set up in two of the children's rooms. Not only were the lockers actually being used, but the kids seemed pretty excited about having them there...
First we saw some themed rooms that are the rage now. We received some photos of a family that made their kids rooms a certain theme. Now these rooms did not have lockers in them before we arrived. We asked them to take photos of the kid's rooms and we brought the kids lockers that we thought would fit the theme and decor the best. Here is what those rooms looked like once we set the appropriate locker into that themed room.
The first room here belongs to a little girl who abso-positively LOVES the color purple! (Can you tell?) She just wanted a very purple room and her parents created it. Now when we brought in a kids locker in our immensely popular 'Dino Purple' color, it not only blended into the room perfectly and added an accent point in the same hue...not to mention it also added a sense of usefulness and purpose to the room itself!
Being able to store all her games, toys, stuffed animals, Barbies and other collectables which tend to be scattered upon the floor (as well as other parts of the house) and by adding this locker the room not only became prettier, but more functional as well since this is a place to store things out of the way.
Next up was the little boy's room. It's theme was 'cars' and had the bright orange streetcar color to it. We took two of our typical kid lockers and placed them inside only to discover these looked REALLY COOL in the room.
What else are cars associated with? Tools, parts and industrial looking stuff, and these two kid lockers fit the bill perfectly. Now he can store his sports equipment, or whatever other games, toys and keepsakes in these two lockers. The best part again is that the lockers look totally at home in this room and are wonderful accent points as well.
What else can be done with any of our kid lockers in a home? Rest assured there are plenty of places these can fit perfectly and look simply fabulous and smashing.
One young lady had just one of the basic kid lockers right next to her bed. The type with legs, simple front and one vibrant color. There it was just kind of sitting there--not really out of place at all and, well, for lack of a better term it just looked like a normal locker in a girl's room.
However once it was opened it revealed to everyone how it was used. There on the top shelf sat all her sports trophies. Apparently she like to play softball and won a few cool trophies that she kept inside.
Below was her sports gear--all gathered in one place so whenever she went out to play in a game or practice, it was centered in one location so she wouldn't have to run around her room looking for her mitt, her baseball hat and ball...
Her brother had a more impressive set up--one of the kid lockers in the stadium style which allows an open area as well as several doors for security and privacy.
Like his sister, he too kept all of his sporting-related gear in these drawers or hanging on the hooks. Depending on the sport; football in the fall and basketball in the winter, he just changes out the gear from his closet so it is all in one place, ready to go!
All in all, having a locker makes perfect and total sense. It is a place for your kids to keep allllll their sports-related gear in one locale that is uncluttered and presentable.
Moms cheer everywhere. :)
Well the more I think about it, the more I realize my kids really could use any type of kid lockers. Not only that, but my garage could use a few as well--but we'll save THAT topic for another blog post!
