Pro Locker Room: Denver Broncos

Nothing promotes team spirit more than a bold, new locker room emblazoned with your team's colors and logos. This was the style inspiration behind the Denver Broncos 2016 locker room renovation—to bring the team closer. The first line of business was to open up the current layout to make it feel more like one large room. The open concept would allow all the players to see each other and would help unite the team. With the current layout, permanent lockers in the middle were creating separation, so these would be need to be removed. These existing maple lockers had been installed in 2005 and would need to be replaced with new team lockers to match the updated, darker wood finishes.

Creating More Space with Improved Locker Placement & Size

Surprisingly, the renovation was fairly minimal in terms of heavy construction. The Denver Broncos Vice President of Operations Chip Conway decribed the changes, saying "Structurally, it really didn’t change size-wise. We really didn’t blow out any walls. We changed some entrances. We lost an entrance into the training room and we maneuvered the player entrances on the north and south ends so they’re a little more strategic so we can get more lockers in here. We shrunk the lockers down by about two inches, which I don’t think the players can really tell that we shrunk them down that much. I think we gained six more permanent lockers in here and we’ll be able to put 22 temps in here—so a grand total of 96 lockers. It’s the same distance. It looks bigger,” said Conway. “

Update Your Locker Room For Less

The big takeaway is that locker room renovations dont always involve major changes, they can be as simple as rethinking your layout. The right locker placement and size of lockers were key to achieving an ideal locker room layout for the Denver Broncos. If your locker room is in dire need of a renovation but lacks the required budget, remember to focus on the simple changes you can make to better utilize your floor space. You may need to make some adjustments to your current locker installation, or you could potentially downsize to a more space-efficient style.
